What to Expect at Your First Ketamine Consultation at New Hope

First, I want to understand your medical history

One of the most common things I hear from prospective patients is that they have spent a significant amount of time researching ketamine before contacting our office.

That research often creates even more questions.

  • Am I a candidate?

  • Is ketamine safe for me?

  • What happens during an infusion?

  • How long does treatment take?

  • What should I realistically expect?

Those are exactly the conversations I want patients to have before treatment begins.

At New Hope Ketamine Clinic, the first step is not an infusion. That first step is a consultation/ evaluation.

Every patient comes to New Hope with a different history.

Some have been managing their symptoms for years. Many have already tried medications, therapy, lifestyle changes or other treatment approaches. Before recommending ketamine infusion therapy, we review your medical history, current medications, previous treatments and individual risk factors.

That information helps me determine whether ketamine can be offered safely and responsibly.

Ketamine treatment is not appropriate for everyone, and a consultation gives us the opportunity to thoughtfully evaluate whether it should be considered as part of your care plan.

Then, I want you to understand the treatment

Patients come into my office with very different levels of familiarity with ketamine.

Some have completed months of research. Others have only recently learned that ketamine infusion therapy exists.

Both are completely understandable.

My responsibility is to make sure you have the information you need to make an informed decision. We discuss what ketamine is, how an infusion works, what patients may experience during treatment, how patients are monitored and what a treatment plan may involve.

Most importantly, you have an opportunity to ask questions.

The consultation should be a conversation

Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to learn more about New Hope Ketamine Clinic and whether an evaluation may be appropriate for you for any of the following:

  • Treatment-resistant depression

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Bipolar depression

  • Chronic pain conditions, including fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain and complex regional pain syndrome

Come prepared to ask questions

I do not believe a patient consultation should feel like a sales appointment. It is a medical conversation.

We may discuss:

  • Your medical and treatment history

  • Current medications

  • Previous approaches to treatment

  • Why you are considering ketamine

  • Medical and safety considerationsWhat happens during an infusion

  • Monitoring during treatment

  • Expectations and limitations

  • Cost and practical considerations

  • How ketamine may fit into your existing care

The consultation also gives you an opportunity to determine whether New Hope feels like the right environment for you.

Your existing care still matters

Ketamine treatment does not mean abandoning the care you already receive. I encourage patients to remain connected to their existing healthcare team.

My intention is to complement those relationships to enhance and reinforce the patient’s care plan.

Ready to learn more?

If you are considering a consultation, I encourage you to write down your questions before you arrive.

  • Ask about safety.

  • Ask what treatment involves.

  • Ask what you should expect.

  • Ask how I determine whether someone is an appropriate candidate.

There is no question you should feel uncomfortable asking about your medical care.

At New Hope, I want patients to leave their consultation with a clearer understanding of their options—even if ketamine ultimately is not the right treatment for them.
